About the wine

Tasting notes

Very bright crimson and purple in colour. Intense perfume of lifted wild raspberries, black olives, soy and turned earth. Crushed granite, red and black cherries, graphite and gun smoke with energetic freshness and length, the palate shows the best of Heathcote with more depth and intensity than previous vintages.Savoury dried herbs and spice, graphite and tapenade again, with very fine tannin coming from the 85% whole bunches during ferment, balanced red fruits leading though a long savoury finish. Concentrated but light on its feet.

Expert review

I spent a few days in Heathcote late last week and I’m accordingly fired up about the region but then, I’ve always loved the place. It’s humble country, it’s old country, it’s real. Adam Foster aka Syrahmi takes grapes for his Demi Shiraz from a range of sites around the region and if ever you wanted a taster of what the region does, this is it. I’ll have more to say on this in future but for now: Adam Foster is a force to be reckoned with. He belongs on any and every Best Producers in The Land list. Complex and powerful at once. Smoky and herbal with crushed rock, violet, black olive and clove-like notes, all woodsy and good, but with sweet/rich redcurrant and black cherry flavour bursting through. There’s tannin but it’s velvety; the acidity keeps things both crisp and crunchy at once. It’s a top wine to drink, warm but intensely more-ish. Feb 2022 93 pts

The Grape

Shiraz or Syrah

Shiraz, or Syrah, is one of the most loved, rich and powerful red wine varieties made famous for its mineral and structured expressions from the Rhône in France and the rich and decadent fruity expressions from the Barossa Valley in Australia. Full bodied, rich in antioxidants and generously fruity, Shiraz sits proudly on the table for those that like their wine big and bold. Think violets, blackberries, plum, chocolate, pepper, black olive, liquorice, rosemary, tobacco and spice...i'm thirsty already!
