The 4 Acres Vineyard is one of Tyrrell's sacred sites, a vineyard on its own roots (ungrafted) which is more than 100 years old. In 2004, Tyrrell's decided that if the vines were still healthy and producing great wine after 100 years, then those wines deserved to be made and bottled individually, and so the Sacred Sites range was born. The 2021 release of the 4 Acres Shiraz celebrates the 142nd anniversary of this historic vineyard, which produces one of Australia’s most unique wines. The fruit has its own unique style and structure, and the wine is only ever produced in outstanding vintages.

About the wine

Tasting notes

Medium colour density with a bright purple hue. It has a complex aromatic profile of red fruits, dried herb and touch of pepper. The palate shows great precision and clarity, whilst being light to mediumbodied, a true Hunter River Burgundy style. Bright red fruits, lively acid and subtle tannins all work together seamlessly. A wine with deceptive length, and great complexity and freshness

Expert review

The purity, clarity and bloodiness of this wine leave a need in the mouth. For more. For again. It drags and reels and entices and cajoles for another mouthful. This is a wonderful attribute for a wine to possess. It manages both sweet and savory, light and intense, all of it built around an achingly fine structure of ductile, pulverized tannin. Minerality defines the mood of the acidity. It's a wonderful wine.

The Grape

Shiraz or Syrah

Shiraz, or Syrah, is one of the most loved, rich and powerful red wine varieties made famous for its mineral and structured expressions from the Rhône in France and the rich and decadent fruity expressions from the Barossa Valley in Australia. Full bodied, rich in antioxidants and generously fruity, Shiraz sits proudly on the table for those that like their wine big and bold. Think violets, blackberries, plum, chocolate, pepper, black olive, liquorice, rosemary, tobacco and spice...i'm thirsty already!
