The name MARAnanga Shiraz is a play on words, Mara Georgiadis co-owner and Marananga the region where our two vineyards are located. Each parcel of Shiraz was hand harvested at optimal phenological ripeness and destemmed to open top fermenters with heading down boards.Twice daily pumpovers were carried out to ensure maximum extraction of colour, flavour and tannin from the grape skins. The wine was basket pressed to one and two-year-old French oak Hogsheads for 18 months maturation. The wine is unfined and unfiltered.

About the wine

Tasting notes

Colour: Bright crimson with deep, dark core.Aroma: intense bouquet of forest fruits, dark chocolate and juniper berries. Subtle aromas of black olive, aniseed, vanilla bean, cardamom and sage.Palate: Sweet red and blue fruits fill the mid palate with delicate flavours of Allspice and charcuterie, enveloped with spicy fine-grain fruit and oak tannins. Persistent fruit flavours with a fine acid line.A wine that can be enjoyed in its youth but has the ability to cellar to enjoy over the next decade!

Shiraz or Syrah

Shiraz, or Syrah, is one of the most loved, rich and powerful red wine varieties made famous for its mineral and structured expressions from the Rhône in France and the rich and decadent fruity expressions from the Barossa Valley in Australia. Full bodied, rich in antioxidants and generously fruity, Shiraz sits proudly on the table for those that like their wine big and bold. Think violets, blackberries, plum, chocolate, pepper, black olive, liquorice, rosemary, tobacco and spice...i'm thirsty already!
