A cool long ripening season brought intense ripe fruit. The 2022 shows generous fruit with integrated fine savoury tannin and the balance we seek. The usual suspects of some delicate rose petal, fennel and black tea character are present with a long palate. Already approachable now responding to some air but will live happily for many years if cellared appropriately.

A step up in density of both fruit and tannin without sacrificing pretty aromatics. Classic rose petals, almond and anise lead to a palate that is plush with fruit but not heavy and finishing with layers of fine tannin drawn out by cleansing acidity. The balance will see this wine live many years but approachable now with a decant and some marbled protein!

Deep ruby with a brick red hue and a nose of finely woven complexity that would trick even the most astute blind taster! It smells of floral blood orange, rose, black cherry, walnut and almond, cocoa, Chinotto, a touch of iron and has a ragu-like meatiness that sits gently in the background. On the palate it’s textural, nervy and complex with intense and pure flavours of red and black berries, sour cherry, blood orange, fennel, savoury herbals, a hint of tomato and a pinch of spice. Bright acidity drives long, while intense tannins grip and hold firm. It’s simultaneously austere and pleasurable, exactly what I love about great Piedmontese expressions. It ends on a very long and elegant tail that has, as Simon would say it, harmony. Wow, this is legit and I reckon it’s the most convincing Nebbiolo yet from Traviarti. Wonderful!
Often referred to as the king of red grapes, Nebbiolo is responsible for some of the greatest wines in the world. The regions of Barbaresco and Barolo, in Piedmont, Italy, create the most revered expressions of the variety and have set the benchmarks for the world over. Nebbiolo is quite light in colour, dry and delicate but packs a punch in aroma and flavour with notes of rose, tar, cherry, red berries, blood orange, licorice, leather, terracotta and earthy herbals. These wines have high acidity and high tannins, making them extremely age worthy that deepen in complexity over decades. Simply stunning wines!
