Rotem and Mounir Saouma own the iconic micro negociant Lucien Le Moine in Beaune and have been one of the most sought after producers of 1er and Grand Cru Burgundy for some years now. With a passion to own their own vineyards they made the leap and purchased some superb terrior in Chateauneuf-du Pape to start Clos Saouma. Light gold and silver with a seductive nose of beautifully sweet fruit, jasmine and yellow blossoms, deep complex spice, Japanese pickled ginger, brioche and what in can only describe as the smell of rocks! In the mouth it’s rich and intensely flavoured, yet incredibly elegant with a powerful core of fruit that looks like it came right out of a Grand Cru vineyard in Burgundy! Saline, deeply mineral and yellow fruited, with pome, a touch of Manuka and complex spice fills the palate, while a grip of fine tannins, beautifully balanced acidity and stony elements brings tension, intrigue and sophistication into the mix. A wine of pure indulgence and class. Gorgeous as always!
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a French wine appellation in the Southern Rhone, known for its luscious, complex, elegant and mineral red and white blends. The whites are usually made with Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, and Clairette, while the reds use Grenache for it's foundation with additions of Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault and more, but some of these wines can blend up to 20 varieties! Because of this, the results are often spectacularly complex and nuanced with a whole range of aromas and flavours and structure to last decades. These are some of the greatest wines on Earth!
