Domaine Mayard embodies a new era in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. They are pioneers for organic farming, agroforestry, vitipastoralism and careful massal selections to take a holistic approach to making fantastic wines in a region where extraordinary history and tradition has dominated the landscape. This 100% organic Southern Rhône blend of 80% Grenache (mostly 80+ year-old vines), and 20% Syrah/Mourvèdre/Cinsault is brilliantly precise and shows what great viticulture, respect of the land and meticulous winemaking can produce.

About the wine

Tasting notes

A beautifully rich, yet precise red packed tight with ripe red, black and blue fruits, blood orange zest, black olive, sage and dried florals that have been gently kissed with spice, sprinkled with Ceylon tea, textured dry from firm gravelly tannins and charged by tense acidity. A serious scaffold of structure keeps this tightly coiled and very focused as it moves through its arc, growing in mineral complexity, steering ferrous, adding wonderful depth and personality to the fruit. It’s pure and full of energy, with not a hair out of place, and ends over a very long tail that holds a chord of strawberry, plum and crushed gravel.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a French wine appellation in the Southern Rhone, known for its luscious, complex, elegant and mineral red and white blends. The whites are usually made with Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, and Clairette, while the reds use Grenache for it's foundation with additions of Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault and more, but some of these wines can blend up to 20 varieties! Because of this, the results are often spectacularly complex and nuanced with a whole range of aromas and flavours and structure to last decades. These are some of the greatest wines on Earth!
