I made this wine in partnership with my friend Darrin Gaffy of Principia Wines win the Mornington Peninsula. The 21 vintage in Mornington has delivered stunning chardonnay. The cooler vintage conditions enabled the fruit to ripen slowly whilst retaining freshness and acidity. We have access two parcels of my favourite Chardonnay clone, P58 (the same clone as Giaconda) from vineyards in Balnarring and Merricks North.

A long, complete and mouth-filling chardonnay whose bright aromas of stonefruit, grapefruit and yellow flowers are backed by nuances of mineral, charcuterie, cinnamon and ginger. Medium to fullish in weight, with a creaminess and underlying nutty aspect, its intense core of stonefruit and citrus flavour extends with genuine complexity and a buttery hint of malolactic influence towards a finely balanced finish shaped by a vivacious acidity. One of the most planted, versatile and popular white varieties in the world. As a stand alone grape, Chardonnay is not the most interesting, nor complex varietal out there...but in the hands of a great winemaker it can be turned into one of the world's greatest pleasures! From the best bubbles of Champagne, to the lean, unoaked and mineral expressions of Chablis and the opulent, oaked and complex whites of Burgundy, Chardonnay is responsible for making some of the greatest expressions of white wine on the planet.
