Grenache is a variety that our family has been growing for generations. It holds a special place in my heart because it is the first wine my wife and I made together which we later served at our wedding. I also love this variety because of the interesting techniques that you can do with it. This wine has been made in a light and bright style. Its lovely and light, super bright, packed full of flavour with a crunch to the finish. YUM. Vineyard:This wine was made 100% from grapes from our family's vineyard in Bethany, Barossa Valley. Grenache is a variety that our family has been growing for generations. These vines have been planted with higher density planting and are around 5 years old and were bunch thinned before veraison to enhance fruit flavour and depth. 100% Barossa Valley vineyards.Winemaking :Hand-picked and then crushed into 4 vessels for fermentation; two old oak barrels, one puncheon (oak barrel) and one stainless steel tank. The oak puncheon had a Carbonic Marceration fermentation (the whole bunches, were put inside the barrel and yeasted then sealed up and not touched till pressing. The ferment proceeded without any oxygen which produces lots of bright raspberry characteristics.) The other ferments had five percent whole bunch which was added to build complexity along with three different yeast. After the wine was pressed off skins it was aged in a puncheon and hogshead barrel for 8 months and a portion was aged in stainless steel to retain freshness. The puncheon was from one of my favourite coopers in France and I chose oak from the Jupilles forest as it is more aromatic and lower in tannin impact and paired with a light toast to ensure balanced oak flavours.

Grenache, (or Garnacha), is one of the most important red grape varieties in the world and is responsible for some of the most expensive and collected wines out there. It's the key variety for making elegant Châteauneuf-du-Pape and rich GSM's, but is brilliant as a stand alone variety and makes wines with a medium body, but intense and often spicy flavours of deep red fruits, black cherry, charred plum, leather, blood orange, dried herbals and cinnamon. From crisp and crunchy, to velvety and rich, this versatile grape is awesome!
