Destined for the cellar, this zesty 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva leaps from the glass with aromas of spiced citrus peels, shavings of pine, mint leaf and currants. It coasts along the palate with silky yet youthfully dense dark red berries and licorice tones, while leaving a coating of salty minerals and fine tannins in their wake; yet throughout all, a core of juicy acidity maintains fabulous balance and energy. A pretty inner sweetness lingers, contrasted by a sour twang of citrus and tart cranberry fruits, as the 2016 tapers off structured, long and unexpectedly fresh. A number of years in the cellar will be required to soften the blow, but Gemini will be worth waiting for.

Sangiovese is a Tuscan red grape variety that has become the most planted and famous variety in Italy. You may know this variety by a few other names like Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Montefalco Rosso or Carmignano, but rest assured it's all the same grape, but it may grow in different regions. Sangiovese is made for food and shows with aromas and flavours of cherry, red berries, roasted tomato, balsamic, Italian herbs, coffee and cured meats, backed by cutting acidity and a good grip of tannins. The best examples come from Montalcino (Brunello di Montalcino) and can age decades!
