Situated at an altitude of 600-700 metres above sea level, the vineyards of Nerello Mascalese sit on soils of volcanic matrix; consisting of overlapping and alternating layers of lava stone and coarse sand. Etna Rosso "Arcuria Sopra il Pozzo" by Graci is a pure Nerello Mascalese from Sicily that elegantly encapsulates the strength and volcanic power of Etna. Every year the grapes are carefully selected from a small Cru of extreme value and refinement, vinified and then matured in wooden barrels for more than 18 months.

Grand Cru Nerello Mascalese! Light ruby red with aromas of violets, intense red berries, star anise, fresh soil, leather, bitumen and graphite. In the mouth it's so elegant and finely detailed with flavours of blood orange, licorice, white pepper, iron and deep cherry. It's complex, mineral and textured by a fine grip of tannins and brightened by electric acidity. It's just entering its drinking window, but will age gracefully for another decade or more.

A rare but much loved red grape variety grown on the volcanic soils of Mount Etna in Sicily. It's kind of like a cross between a Pinot Noir and a Nebbiolo...heavenly...and makes wines that are deliciously light-bodied but intensely flavoured with zingy red fruits, crunchy cherry, spicy cinnamon, dried herbals, zesty acidity, leather and a complex volcanic earthiness that sits underneath it all. A brilliant variety that is growing in popularity by the day!
