Red wine is a type of wine made from grape varieties with darkly coloured skins. Think Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Grenache, Nebbiolo and many more. Extended contact between the juice of crushed grapes and their dark skins results in red coloured wine. The colour of the wine can range from intense violet, typical of young wines, through to brick red for mature wines and brown for older red wines.
