A wonderful expression of Chardonnay from a site that should really be upgraded to Grand Cru. Classic Montée de Tonnerre with some driving mineral notes and firm acidity to keep the ripe fruit in balance, exactly what Chablis should be.
Region - Chablis
Type - White
Year - 2019
Winery - Chablis
Grape - Chardonnay
Volume - Standard - 750ml
Tangy streaks of lemon and crisp yellow cherry introduce this pure-fruited, spine-tingling Chablis sourced from a premier-cru vineyard just a stone’s throw from grand cru sites. Rich and weighty yet lifted by a crush of chalk and stone, the wine is fantastic young but should hold well through 2030.

An elegant array is comprised of cool citrus rind, mineral reduction, quinine and white flowers. I very much like the intensity and fine detail to the highly energetic and overtly stony middle weight flavors that terminate in a clean, bone-dry and youthfully austere finale. This is lovely, and I particularly like the balance, though in contrast to the Fourchaume, this is a wine that's going to need at least a few years first. Drink 2027+.
One of the most planted, versatile and popular white varieties in the world. As a stand alone grape, Chardonnay is not the most interesting, nor complex varietal out there...but in the hands of a great winemaker it can be turned into one of the world's greatest pleasures! From the best bubbles of Champagne, to the lean, unoaked and mineral expressions of Chablis and the opulent, oaked and complex whites of Burgundy, Chardonnay is responsible for making some of the greatest expressions of white wine on the planet.
