The Antipodes Cuvee’s are made by Francois Millet, former winemaker at the iconic Chambolle Musigny estate of Domaine Georges Comte de Vogue and now his own Domaine Francois Millet et Fils in partnership with Paul Pujol from Prophets Rock. This friendship began when Paul worked for Francois at Comte de Vogue during vintage as an assistant winemaker to Francois. Paul invited Francois’s son to visit New Zealand to offer the same insight and during his son’s visit Francois decided to come out and visit Paul as well to see the winery. He loved the site Prophet’s Rock has in Bendigo Central Otago and the two of them began discussing working together on a joint project, which came alive with the first bottling in 2015.

The Antipodes Chardonnay bursts forth with what I see as the region’s characteristic acid signature – like a high wattage light bulb with a diffusing lens, incredibly bright with softened edges. While the wine is still incredibly young, its fineness is apparent with a lovely sense of transparency and restraint, flavours of both citrus and white stone fruits, with just a hint of biscuit and very lightly framed with spice. There is a pleasing texture and mouthfeel, plenty of mid-palate density without even a hint of heaviness, and a lot of length. This wine of nuance will surely develop further with time in bottle. Allow aeration and time to taste

One of the most planted, versatile and popular white varieties in the world. As a stand alone grape, Chardonnay is not the most interesting, nor complex varietal out there...but in the hands of a great winemaker it can be turned into one of the world's greatest pleasures! From the best bubbles of Champagne, to the lean, unoaked and mineral expressions of Chablis and the opulent, oaked and complex whites of Burgundy, Chardonnay is responsible for making some of the greatest expressions of white wine on the planet.
