Platinetti Guido is a family producer based near the town of Ghemme, in the Alto Piemonte - the Piemonte high country to the north of Barolo and Barbaresco.Grapes are sourced from the old Ronco al Maso cru in Ghemme. This is from a terraced vineyard with fluvial -glacial soil with sandy and pebbly texture. The minimum vine age here is 45 years. This is fruit declassified from the Ghemme - not with a view to quality consideration but rather fruit with a structure more aligned with earlier consumption.

Aromas of dried florals, strawberry, hints of blue fruit, raspberry jam, white pepper and a touch of rusticity. Nicely dry and earthy on the palate with notes of leather, sumac and an iron-ferrous minerality that surrounds cherry, strawberry and orange zest flavours. Firmly structured with a chalky feel. Great value Nebbiolo that has character and energy.

Often referred to as the king of red grapes, Nebbiolo is responsible for some of the greatest wines in the world. The regions of Barbaresco and Barolo, in Piedmont, Italy, create the most revered expressions of the variety and have set the benchmarks for the world over. Nebbiolo is quite light in colour, dry and delicate but packs a punch in aroma and flavour with notes of rose, tar, cherry, red berries, blood orange, licorice, leather, terracotta and earthy herbals. These wines have high acidity and high tannins, making them extremely age worthy that deepen in complexity over decades. Simply stunning wines!
