The Produttori del Barbaresco, founded in 1958, now has 51 members and controls more than 100 hectares (250 acres) of premium Nebbiolo vineyards in Barbaresco. Each family is in full control of its land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with centuries old skill and dedication. The vinery produces a Barbaresco D.O.C.G., a blend of Nebbiolo grapes harvested from different vineyards, and a simpler Nebbiolo Langhe suited for earlier consumption. In great vintages, nine single-vineyard Barbarescos are produced from nine classic premium sites within the Barbaresco village boundaries: Asili, Rabajà, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Pajè, Montefico, Muncagota, and Rio Sordo. These are the geographical names of sites where Nebbiolo grapes have always been cultivated. The name of the single-vineyards, the total number of bottles produced, and the name of the owners of the vineyards are marked on the labels. The Produttori del Barbaresco, which vinifies only Nebbiolo grapes, produce around 550,000 bottles (45,000 cases) per year. In a good vintage they are divided among Barbaresco (50%), single vineyard Barbarescos (30%) and Nebbiolo Langhe (20%).

Medium ruby with a terracotta hue and a beautifully floral, ripe fruited and complex nose of Turkish delight, lemon pith, blood orange, Chinotto, redcurrant, cherry and strawberry, spiked with peppermint, dried oregano, fennel seeds, mastic and Rooibos tea. Seems to have a bit more oak spice influence than expected. In the mouth it’s powerful and maybe a little Burgundian; Chambolle-like even! Ripe fruited, well balanced and generous in flavour, this is immediately approachable with dark cherry, black youngberry, ever so slightly jubey red berries, blood orange, licorice and pleasantly bitter Campari herbals. Structured with firm, dry and fleshy Nebbiolo tannins that impart great tension and texture, brightened by a juicy undercurrent of acidity that carries and balances the fruitiness in a beautiful way. There's serious drive and intensity, good length, harmony and plenty of depth, making this a really lovely release!
Often referred to as the king of red grapes, Nebbiolo is responsible for some of the greatest wines in the world. The regions of Barbaresco and Barolo, in Piedmont, Italy, create the most revered expressions of the variety and have set the benchmarks for the world over. Nebbiolo is quite light in colour, dry and delicate but packs a punch in aroma and flavour with notes of rose, tar, cherry, red berries, blood orange, licorice, leather, terracotta and earthy herbals. These wines have high acidity and high tannins, making them extremely age worthy that deepen in complexity over decades. Simply stunning wines!
