1 of only 10,000 bottles, this killer Savagnin comes from 35yr old vines in Nevy-sur-Seille, known for its stony marl soils and steep, rocky slopes. The vineyard is so challenging to work that Céline (the winemaker) relies on her donkey Arco to help during harvest...hence the name.

About the wine

Tasting notes

Complex and oxidatively handled with sherry-like savouriness and nuttiness with tart pome, lemon and lime and a touch of fennel. It's bold and racy on the palate and drives with rich fruit that echoes the nose, along with quince, nut butter and brine.

The Grape

Savagnin

A white grape variety with a home in the Jura, France, and is responsible for wines of great purity, complexity and uniqueness. When made as a dry white, the wines are floral and aromatic with citrus, apples, chewy stonefruit, salinity with a hint of tropicals, but it can also become wildly complex when made in an oxidative manner and develops delicious nutty, mineral and sherry-like notes unlike anything else in the world. Vin Jaune is a heavily oxidative expression of Savagnin and is becoming a highly sought after and age worthy style for collectors. It might be illegal to have this wine without a generous slab of Comté cheese...
