About the wine

Tasting notes

A powerful fruit-laden Nebbiolo that lifts this wine to a new high. Dark plums and cherries, violets, dewy rose petals at dawn and a zephyr of melted tar fills the glass. A sensory joy. Gobs of black fruit fill the palate, and a cavalcade of fine, drying tannins escort the wine on a long and enjoyable journey.

Expert review

Deep bloody ruby with brick at the rim and a compelling, complex and persuasive nose that blurs the line between Australia and Piedmont! Aromas of rose, lemon pith, black cherry, dried cranberries and fig, Chinotto, biltong, hints of chestnut and cocoa, savoury dried oregano and sage, white tea, licorice, boot polish, leather, a touch of white soy and tar. Ahhh, so awesome! In the mouth it’s juicy and generously flavoured, but firmly structured and bone dry with real Nebbiolo tannins! A core of dark berries, fig, blood orange, dried herbals, a touch of cola, slightly bitter licorice, tobacco, and whispers of mace are charged with mineral-edged acidity and gripped firm with tall, gravelly tannins that you’d only expect from Nebbiolo. It’s tense and muscular, but also fleshy and luscious, with beautiful proportions and great length. This is gorgeous! It ends over minutes, humming with plum, black cherry and an ironstone mineral quality. An exceptional release that, for me, has set a new benchmark for the variety in Australia.

Wine Worth Writing About

The Grape

Nebbiolo

Often referred to as the king of red grapes, Nebbiolo is responsible for some of the greatest wines in the world. The regions of Barbaresco and Barolo, in Piedmont, Italy, create the most revered expressions of the variety and have set the benchmarks for the world over. Nebbiolo is quite light in colour, dry and delicate but packs a punch in aroma and flavour with notes of rose, tar, cherry, red berries, blood orange, licorice, leather, terracotta and earthy herbals. These wines have high acidity and high tannins, making them extremely age worthy that deepen in complexity over decades. Simply stunning wines!
