This fruit is sourced from the heart of Marananga on the renowned western ridge of the Barossa Valley, where the soils are predominantly red-brown loams over red clay, amidst shattered ironstone and quartz. The Cabernet Sauvignon was hand-picked and destemmed to a 5 tonne open top fermenter where twice daily pump overs were carried out during fermentation. At the completion of fermentation, the wine underwent post-ferment maceration (on skins) for 13 days before pressing in a basket press. The wine was matured in 67% new American oak and 33% one-year old French oak 300L hogsheads for 19 months. The wine is neither fined, nor filtered.

Expert review

A big impact red wine lavished with spicy French oak, rich and potent as an expression of a single site with layers and layers of muscular, thick and slippery red and black berry fruit character. There's woody spices, cinnamon and clove, some roast meat characters, tobacco and choc-liquorice in there too. A formidable red wine of statue and power, though it shows how well all the characters mesh when judiciously handled. Big, done very well.

The Grape

Cabernet Sauvignon

A red grape variety that is responsible for the most expensive wines on the planet...some fetching over $100, 000 per bottle!!! It is also the worlds most popular style of wine and produces age worthy and concentrated expressions that show notes of potpourri, cassis, black cherry, blackberry, mulberry, raspberry, leafy herbals, green pepper, baking spices, charcoal, graphite and cedar. Most famous for the first growth wines from the Left Bank in Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon is often used as a primary variety for red blends designed to last decades and is a must have style for any serious collector.
