For us, the Fontaine wines represent the full breadth of the Yarra Valley by sourcing from a range of vineyards in both the northern and southern ends of the Valley. The sites are all north facing for maximum sunshine and are generally clay based soils with broken sandstone, allowing for excellent water retention. This enables the vines to handle summer drought and consistently deliver Cabernet Sauvignon that is concentrated yet elegant; as well as juicy with soft, silky tannins.A later season than 2019, we sure we were able to get ultimate ripeness. The dry winter, lead to a wet spring and mild summer with some heat spikes - in the end brought everything together and gave us a wine that resulted in really bright, juicy fruit. We strive for drinkability through elegance, and the season came through to help deliver exactly that.

The Grape

Cabernet Sauvignon

A red grape variety that is responsible for the most expensive wines on the planet...some fetching over $100, 000 per bottle!!! It is also the worlds most popular style of wine and produces age worthy and concentrated expressions that show notes of potpourri, cassis, black cherry, blackberry, mulberry, raspberry, leafy herbals, green pepper, baking spices, charcoal, graphite and cedar. Most famous for the first growth wines from the Left Bank in Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon is often used as a primary variety for red blends designed to last decades and is a must have style for any serious collector.
