Moody and brooding with a nose of florals, red and black fruits, tea-like sous-bois, seductively savoury spices and ferrous Earth. In the mouth it’s dry, gently saline and gripped with firm feathery tannins that texture beautifully sweet berries and plum. Wonderfully balanced, elegant and understated. Delicious!

More deeply pitched and slightly less elegant aromas are comprised by notes of plum, dark currant, forest floor and a whiff of game. There is excellent density and power to the broad-shouldered yet still reasonably refined flavors that flash a bracing salinity on the refreshing and impressively long finale. This is always a very good Gevrey villages and 2019 is no exception. Recommended. Drink: 2027+
